THE STORM THAT TESTED GREYHAVEN
Chapter 8
At sunrise, Greyhaven looked like another town.
Trees lay across streets.
Roof tiles covered sidewalks.
Broken signs hung from buildings.
Boats rested at strange angles.
The harbor was filled with debris.
The community center had water damage.
The diner had three broken windows.
The old pier had partially collapsed.
Ethan walked through the main street.
He didn’t say anything.
Neither did anyone else.
Then Sam picked up a piece of wood.
“Where do we start?”
Walter looked around.
“Everywhere.”
Nobody argued.
They began.
Young people cleared branches.
Fishermen repaired docks.
Carpenters fixed roofs.
Mechanics worked on generators.
Restaurant workers prepared food.
People carried water.
Older residents organized supplies.
Children collected small pieces of debris under supervision.
Greyhaven had no official plan.
It didn’t need one.
Everyone knew what mattered.
