At four in the morning, the wind finally began to weaken.

Not stop.

Just weaken.

That small difference changed everything.

People started moving faster.

Boats were checked.

Roads were cleared.

Power lines were inspected.

The rain continued.

But the worst had passed.

Ethan stood on the pier.

The ocean was still violent.

Several boats were damaged.

One had disappeared completely.

He looked toward the town.

But alive.

Walter stood beside him.

“You see it?”

“Yeah.”

“Still here.”

Ethan breathed out.

They stood in silence.

Then Walter handed him a cup of coffee.

Ethan looked at it.

“June.”

“She’s still awake?”

Walter smiled.

“June doesn’t sleep during disasters.”

Ethan took a sip.

The coffee was terrible.

He drank it anyway.
