THE STORM THAT TESTED GREYHAVEN
Chapter 2
The storm arrived faster than anyone expected.
At two thirty, the first violent gust hit.
A street sign broke loose.
It crashed against a parked truck.
People ran to secure anything that could move.
At three, the rain began.
At three fifteen, it became almost impossible to see across the harbor.
Ethan drove toward the waterfront.
He found several young men already there.
Sam was tying down a fishing boat.
“Where’s Walter?”
“At the community center.”
Ethan looked toward the boats.
“How many are still out?”
“Three.”
Ethan’s face tightened.
“Can they make it back?”
Sam looked toward the ocean.
“I don’t know.”
Another wave slammed into the seawall.
The sound shook the ground.
Ethan grabbed a rope.
“Let’s get these secured.”
They worked quickly.
One rope.
Then another.
A boat slammed into the dock.
Wood cracked.
“Move!”
Ethan pulled Sam backward just as a section of railing broke apart.
The men stared at the wreckage.
Nobody spoke.
Then Ethan grabbed another rope.
“Again.”
