THE STORM THAT TESTED GREYHAVEN
Chapter 4
By five, the electricity failed.
The town went dark.
The only light came from emergency lamps and headlights.
For a few seconds, nobody moved.
Then someone shouted from the street.
“Boat broke loose!”
Ethan ran.
Several others followed.
A fishing boat had broken free from its mooring.
It was drifting toward the pier.
If it struck the structure, the damage could be catastrophic.
Sam grabbed a rope.
“We need to pull it sideways.”
Ethan nodded.
Four men took positions.
“On three!”
The wind pushed against them.
“One!”
Rain blurred Ethan’s vision.
“Two!”
The boat slammed against the dock.
“Three!”
They pulled.
The rope tightened.
One man fell.
Ethan grabbed his jacket and pulled him up.
Again.
Again.
Again.
The boat finally shifted.
They secured it to a second mooring.
Everyone collapsed against the railing.
For a moment, they simply breathed.
Then Sam laughed.
Nobody knew why.
Maybe exhaustion.
Maybe fear.
Maybe relief.
Ethan laughed too.
The storm kept raging.
But Greyhaven was still standing.
