Three days after the storm, the town began to look different.

Not normal.

But better.

The first roof was repaired.

The diner windows were replaced.

Several boats were back in the water.

The roads were clear.

The harbor walkway was still under construction.

Ethan arrived early.

Walter was already there.

“You sleep?”

“A little.”

Walter handed him a hammer.

“Good enough.”

They worked side by side.

Around noon, Ethan stepped back.

A section of the damaged pier was standing again.

It wasn’t perfect.

Some boards were different colors.

One section leaned slightly.

Walter looked at it.

“Beautiful.”

Ethan laughed.

“It’s crooked.”

“So is half the town.”

Ethan looked around.

Walter smiled.

“We’re matching.”

Ethan shook his head.

But he smiled too.
