She Married a Sterile Mafia Boss for One Year—Then the Doctor Said She Was Pregnant
Chapter 1
The doctor stared at the ultrasound screen for nearly ten seconds before looking at the woman sitting on the examination table.
“I need to ask you something.”
Isabella Romano gripped the edge of the paper-covered table.
“What?”
The doctor turned the monitor slightly toward her.
“You’re pregnant.”
Isabella stopped breathing.
“No.”
The doctor frowned.
“Yes.”
“That isn’t possible.”
“I thought you might say that.”
Isabella looked at the tiny flickering shape on the screen.
Her hands began to tremble.
“How far?”
“Approximately nine weeks.”
She closed her eyes.
Nine weeks.
She immediately counted backward.
Her wedding.
The night she had signed the agreement.
The night she had walked into the mansion of the most feared man in the city.
The night everyone had told her that her husband could never father a child.
Her stomach tightened.
“Doctor…”
“Yes?”
“My husband is sterile.”
The doctor remained silent.
Isabella stared at the screen.
“He can’t have children.”
“I can’t comment on your husband’s medical history,” the doctor said carefully. “But this pregnancy is real.”
Isabella’s pulse raced.
She had married Adrian Blackwood for one year.
That was the agreement.
Twelve months.
No love.
No children.
No questions about his business.
In exchange, her father’s crushing debt would disappear, her younger brother would receive the medical treatment he needed, and Isabella would walk away with enough money to rebuild her life.
It had seemed simple.
Until she fell in love with the one man she had promised herself she would never love.
And now she was carrying his child.
The doctor printed the ultrasound.
“You should tell your husband.”
Isabella looked down at the image.
Her fingers closed around it.
“That,” she whispered, “is exactly what I’m afraid of.”
Because Adrian Blackwood had spent his entire life believing he could never have an heir.
And there were men in his organization who would kill to make sure that remained true.
