She Married a Sterile Mafia Boss for One Year—Then the Doctor Said She Was Pregnant
Chapter 5
The first threat arrived six months into the marriage.
A black envelope appeared on Isabella’s pillow.
Inside was a photograph.
Her brother leaving the hospital.
On the back were four words.
Your husband can’t protect everyone.
Isabella’s hands shook.
Adrian found her sitting on the bed.
“What happened?”
She handed him the photograph.
His face changed.
“Who gave you this?”
“I don’t know.”
Adrian immediately called security.
Within minutes, the mansion was locked down.
Isabella watched him move through the room.
Calm.
Controlled.
Terrifying.
“Adrian.”
He stopped.
“What?”
“Who would do this?”
“Someone who wants me angry.”
“Why?”
“Because angry men make mistakes.”
She looked at him.
“And what are you going to do?”
“Find them.”
“Then what?”
His silence answered her.
Isabella stepped closer.
“Don’t kill anyone because of me.”
Adrian’s eyes hardened.
“They threatened my wife.”
“Your wife is part of the contract.”
He looked directly at her.
“No.”
“What?”
“You were.”
She swallowed.
“You’re saying I’m not anymore?”
Adrian moved closer.
“You stopped being a contract a long time ago.”
Isabella’s heart pounded.
“Then what am I?”
His voice dropped.
“My family.”
She stared at him.
Neither spoke.
Then Adrian reached up and touched her cheek.
“I should have ended this before it became dangerous.”
Isabella whispered:
“I don’t want it ended.”
He closed his eyes.
That night, for the first time, they kissed.
And neither of them remembered the contract.
