She Married a Sterile Mafia Boss for One Year—Then the Doctor Said She Was Pregnant
Chapter 13
Two years later, Adrian’s empire had changed.
The illegal operations were gone.
Blackwood Holdings became a legitimate investment group.
Adrian sold several businesses connected to organized crime.
He funded hospitals, shelters, and programs for families escaping violence.
People who once feared his name began to respect it.
But Adrian remained fiercely protective of his family.
Grace grew into a curious little girl who loved following her father around.
One afternoon, she found the torn pieces of the old marriage contract in a drawer.
“Daddy?”
Adrian looked up.
“What is it?”
“A paper.”
He smiled.
“That used to be very important.”
“Why?”
“Because it brought your mother into my life.”
Grace looked confused.
“Mommy wasn’t always here?”
“No.”
“Where was she?”
“Somewhere I was lucky enough to find.”
Grace thought about this.
“Did you love Mommy?”
Adrian smiled.
“From the beginning.”
Isabella entered the room.
“You’re rewriting history.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Am I?”
“You couldn’t stand me.”
“I was terrified of you.”
“That’s not what you said.”
Grace giggled.
“Daddy was scared of Mommy?”
Adrian nodded solemnly.
“Very.”
Isabella laughed.
Grace ran toward her mother.
“Mommy, Daddy was scared!”
“He still is.”
Adrian stood.
“I heard that.”
The house filled with laughter.
No one would have believed it years earlier.
The feared crime lord who had once lived behind steel gates now spent Saturday mornings making pancakes for a toddler.
But some shadows remained.
Adrian sometimes woke from nightmares.
Isabella sometimes remembered the threat letters.
And both knew their lives had changed because of one impossible discovery.
Their daughter.
