She Married a Sterile Mafia Boss for One Year—Then the Doctor Said She Was Pregnant
Chapter 14
Five years after Grace was born, Isabella returned to the clinic where she had first learned she was pregnant.
She stood outside the building with Adrian.
“You remember this place?”
He nodded.
“How could I forget?”
She smiled.
“You thought I was lying.”
“I was terrified.”
“So was I.”
Adrian took her hand.
The doctor who had treated her was now nearing retirement.
When she saw them, she smiled.
“I remember you.”
Isabella laughed.
“You told me I should tell my husband.”
“I did.”
“And I was terrified.”
The doctor looked at Grace.
“Is this her?”
Isabella nodded.
The doctor smiled.
“She was quite the surprise.”
Adrian looked at his daughter.
“The best surprise of my life.”
The doctor studied him.
“You know, Mr. Blackwood, I never understood why you were told you couldn’t have children.”
Adrian looked at Isabella.
“Neither did we.”
The doctor shook her head.
“Sometimes the most dangerous thing isn’t what medicine tells us.”
“What is?”
“Believing one answer is the end of the story.”
Adrian smiled.
“That lesson cost me a fortune.”
Isabella squeezed his hand.
“And gave you a family.”
He looked at Grace.
“Worth every penny.”
