She Was Forced to Marry an Infertile Mafia Boss — Months Later, Her Morning Sickness Shocked All

Chapter 1

The rain had been falling over Chicago since sunset, turning the streets outside the DeLuca mansion into black mirrors beneath the city lights.

Inside, Elena Moretti stood at the end of a dining table long enough to seat twenty people, though only six men occupied the room.

None of them looked at her.

They looked at the contract.

Her father’s hands trembled as he pushed the papers across the polished walnut table.

“Elena,” he whispered, “you know what happens if we refuse.”

She stared at the signature waiting at the bottom.

Marriage Agreement: Elena Moretti and Vincent DeLuca.

Her throat tightened.

Everyone in Chicago’s criminal underworld knew Vincent DeLuca.

Thirty-four.

Cold.

Untouchable.

The head of the DeLuca organization.

And, according to every doctor who had ever examined him, infertile.

The word had become part of his legend.

People whispered that Vincent could command an army, control half the city’s docks, and make politicians answer his calls—but he could never produce an heir.

Elena’s father had once called that a blessing.

Tonight, it was the reason Vincent had chosen her.

“Why me?” Elena finally asked.

Vincent sat at the opposite end of the table.

He wore a black suit without a tie, his dark hair slightly damp from the rain. His face was expressionless.

“Because your family needs protection.”

“And you need a wife.”

“Yes.”

“A wife who can’t give you children.”

Something changed in his eyes.

Only for a second.

Then it disappeared.

“I don’t need children.”

Elena almost laughed.

The room was full of armed men.

Her father owed Vincent millions after a failed construction deal. The Moretti family’s businesses were collapsing, and Vincent had offered one way out.

Marriage.

In exchange, the debt would disappear.

The Morettis would keep their businesses.

And Elena would become Mrs. DeLuca.

It wasn’t a proposal.

It was a transaction.

Her father looked at her.

“I am sorry.”

Those three words hurt more than the contract.

Elena picked up the pen.

“If I sign this, the debt disappears?”

Vincent nodded.

“My family is safe?”

“Yes.”

“And nobody touches my father?”

“Nobody.”

She looked at Vincent.

“And what exactly do you expect from me?”

“You live in my house. You attend public events when required. You wear my ring.”

His voice remained calm.

“You will have your own room.”

Elena blinked.

“My own room?”

“Yes.”

“And that’s it?”

“For now.”

She signed.

The scratching of the pen against paper sounded louder than the thunder outside.

Vincent stood.

He walked toward her.

Elena instinctively stepped backward.

He stopped several feet away.

Then he placed a small velvet box on the table.

Inside was a diamond ring.

“You’ll wear it tomorrow.”

Elena stared at it.

“You’re really going through with this?”

Vincent’s jaw tightened.

“I don’t break agreements.”

He turned toward the door.

Before leaving, he paused.

“Elena.”

She looked up.

“You should understand one thing before tomorrow.”

“What?”

“This marriage may have been forced.”

His eyes met hers.

“But I will never force you to give me what you don’t want to give.”

Then he left.

Elena remained alone in the enormous dining room.

She expected fear.

Instead, she felt something far more confusing.

Curiosity.

Because the monster everyone described had just given her a choice.

And she had no idea why.
