Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!
Chapter 1
The envelope landed on the restaurant table between us.
I stared at it.
Then at the man sitting across from me.
He was wearing a dark navy suit that probably cost more than everything I owned. His silver watch caught the light whenever he moved his hand. Two bodyguards stood several feet behind him, pretending not to listen.
He didn’t touch his coffee.
He didn’t need to.
Men like Richard Bennett didn’t wait for permission to take control of a room.
“You’re Daniel Carter,” he said.
“Yes.”
“You’re dating my daughter.”
I swallowed.
“Yes.”
He opened the envelope and slid a photograph across the table.
It was a picture of Olivia and me outside the small bookstore where she worked on Saturdays.
I looked at it.
“Where did you get that?”
“That isn’t important.”
“What is?”
He leaned back.
“My daughter is worth more than you could ever provide.”
The words were calm.
That somehow made them worse.
I looked toward the window.
Olivia was supposed to meet me here in twenty minutes.
She didn’t know her father had found me.
She didn’t know I had received three missed calls from an unknown number that morning.
And she definitely didn’t know why I was sitting across from the man whose name appeared on skyscrapers, hospitals, shipping companies, and half the financial news in Lagos.
Richard Bennett folded his hands.
“I’ll make this simple.”
He pushed the envelope closer.
“Take the money.”
I didn’t open it.
“How much?”
“One billion naira.”
For a second, I thought I had misheard him.
He watched my face.
“₦1 billion.”
The restaurant suddenly seemed very quiet.
I looked at the envelope again.
One billion naira.
Enough to change the lives of everyone I loved.
Enough to pay my mother’s medical bills.
Enough to buy a house.
Enough to erase every debt I had.
Enough to become someone people noticed.
And all I had to do was walk away from Olivia.
“What’s the catch?”
“You leave my daughter.”
“And if I don’t?”
“You won’t receive the money.”
I almost laughed.
“No. I mean what happens if I refuse?”
His expression hardened.
“Then I’ll make sure you never get close to her again.”
There it was.
The real offer.
Not money.
A warning.
I looked at the envelope.
Then at the restaurant entrance.
Olivia walked in.
She was wearing a simple white blouse and jeans, her hair tied loosely behind her.
The moment she saw me, she smiled.
Then she noticed her father.
The smile disappeared.
“Dad?”
Richard stood.
“Olivia.”
She looked at me.
Then at the envelope.
“What is this?”
Neither of us answered.
Her eyes moved to her father.
“What did you do?”
Richard picked up his coat.
“I offered him a way out.”
Her face went pale.
“Dad…”
He walked past her.
At the door, he stopped.
“Daniel.”
I looked up.
His voice became quiet.
“Take the money.”
Then he left.
Olivia sat across from me.
Her eyes filled with tears.
“Tell me he didn’t.”
I couldn’t lie.
“He did.”
She looked at the envelope.
“How much?”
I whispered:
“One billion naira.”
She closed her eyes.
Then she asked the question that changed everything.
“Daniel… did you consider taking it?”
I looked at her.
And for the first time, I realized there was no easy answer.
Because I loved her.
But one billion naira could save my family.
And Olivia had no idea how badly we needed saving.
