Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!
Chapter 4
The hospital was crowded the next morning.
My mother was supposed to have another round of tests.
I arrived early.
The receptionist checked the system.
Then frowned.
“Mr. Carter?”
“Yes.”
“Your mother’s appointment has been canceled.”
“What?”
She looked confused.
“It says the account has been transferred.”
“To whom?”
She hesitated.
“Bennett Foundation.”
My stomach dropped.
Olivia arrived ten minutes later.
She saw me standing at the desk.
“What happened?”
I told her.
She immediately pulled out her phone.
“I’ll call my father.”
“No.”
“Daniel.”
“He wants me angry.”
“He threatened your mother.”
“No.”
I shook my head.
“He’s showing me what he can do.”
We left the hospital.
Outside, Olivia called him.
He answered.
“Hello, sweetheart.”
“Did you cancel Daniel’s mother’s appointment?”
“No.”
“Then why is her account under your foundation?”
“Because I paid for her treatment.”
Olivia went silent.
“You what?”
“I’ve known about her condition for months.”
I stared at the phone.
“You’ve been watching me.”
Richard’s voice came through.
“I’ve been protecting my daughter.”
“You don’t protect people by controlling them.”
“You’re twenty-four.”
“And you’re afraid of me.”
A pause.
Then:
“No.”
Richard’s voice became cold.
“I’m afraid of what you’ll do to her.”
The call ended.
Olivia lowered the phone.
She looked at me.
“My father knows something.”
“What?”
“I don’t know.”
That evening, she showed me a file.
It contained photographs.
Me.
My mother.
My sister.
Our apartment.
My workplace.
The places I visited.
Everything.
Someone had been following me for months.
Then I noticed a photograph at the bottom.
It was old.
Very old.
A young woman stood beside a man outside a construction site.
The woman looked familiar.
I picked it up.
“Who is this?”
Olivia looked at it.
“My mother.”
I looked closer.
The man beside her wasn’t Richard.
Olivia shook her head.
“I’ve never seen him.”
I turned the photograph over.
There was a date.
Twenty-five years earlier.
And a handwritten sentence.
If anything happens to me, find Daniel Carter’s father.
I stared at the words.
“My father?”
Olivia looked at me.
“Your father?”
I nodded slowly.
“My father disappeared when I was six.”
She looked terrified.
“Daniel…”
“What?”
“My father told me yours was dead.”
I stared at her.
“My father isn’t dead.”
