Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!
Chapter 6
We turned.
A security guard stood in the doorway.
He was older.
Gray hair.
Tired eyes.
He looked at the file in my hands.
Then at Olivia.
“Put it down.”
“Who are you?” I asked.
He ignored me.
“Your father told me never to let anyone find this.”
“My father?”
The old man nodded.
“Daniel Carter.”
My chest tightened.
“You knew him?”
“I worked with him.”
“Where is he?”
The man’s eyes filled with something that looked like regret.
“I don’t know.”
“You’re lying.”
“I watched him disappear.”
“Where?”
He looked toward the hallway.
“Not here.”
“Then where?”
He stepped closer.
“Your father wasn’t killed.”
Olivia whispered:
“Then where is he?”
The man looked at me.
“He was taken.”
“By whom?”
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he reached into his pocket.
He handed me a small brass key.
“Your father told me that if you ever came looking…”
He placed it in my palm.
“…give you this.”
I stared at it.
“What does it open?”
“A safe.”
“Where?”
He looked at Olivia.
“Your father’s office.”
She frowned.
“My father doesn’t have an office here.”
“He did.”
The old man walked away.
We followed him.
But he was gone.
Outside, a black SUV was waiting.
The driver saw us.
Then sped away.
We returned to Olivia’s house.
She used the key on an old locked cabinet in her father’s study.
It opened.
Inside was a stack of documents.
And a video recorder.
Olivia pressed play.
Her mother’s face appeared on the screen.
She looked younger.
Afraid.
“Olivia, if you’re watching this, I’m sorry.”
Olivia began crying.
Her mother continued.
“Your father will tell you I betrayed him.”
A pause.
“I did not.”
Then she said something that made both of us freeze.
“The man who stole the money was not Richard.”
Olivia stared at the screen.
Her mother continued.
“Richard took the blame because he was trying to protect someone.”
“Who?” Olivia whispered.
The recording showed a second person entering the room.
The camera shifted.
A man’s voice said:
“You promised.”
Richard.
Then my father’s voice.
“I promised nothing.”
The video ended.
Olivia turned to me.
“My father was protecting someone.”
“Who?”
Before we could answer, the study door opened.
Richard stood there.
He had heard everything.
His eyes went directly to me.
Then the recorder.
Then the key in my hand.
His face changed.
“Where did you get that?”
I held it up.
“From a man who says my father gave it to him.”
Richard went completely still.
Then he whispered:
“Your father is alive.”
