Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!
Chapter 7
Richard sat down.
For the first time since I had met him, he looked old.
Not powerful.
Not intimidating.
Just tired.
Olivia stood across from him.
“You knew?”
Richard didn’t answer.
“Dad!”
He closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
The word barely left his mouth.
I stepped forward.
“Where is he?”
“I don’t know.”
“You just said he’s alive.”
“I said he was.”
“When did you last see him?”
“Twenty years ago.”
“Why did you tell everyone he was dead?”
Richard looked at me.
“Because if I hadn’t, you’d be dead too.”
I wanted to hit him.
Instead, I stood there.
“Explain.”
He took a long breath.
“Your father discovered that the construction company was being used to move illegal money.”
“By whom?”
“People more powerful than me.”
“You expect me to believe that?”
“I don’t care.”
His voice cracked.
“I watched men threaten your father.”
“Then why didn’t you stop them?”
“Because I was twenty-eight.”
He looked at Olivia.
“And I had your mother.”
I stared.
“Your mother had found the evidence.”
Richard continued.
“She wanted to expose everyone.”
“Why didn’t she?”
“She was killed.”
Olivia covered her mouth.
“No.”
Richard nodded.
“The accident wasn’t an accident.”
Her knees nearly gave way.
I caught her.
Richard looked at me.
“Your father survived the attack.”
“Where is he?”
“I helped him disappear.”
“Why?”
“Because the only way to keep him alive was to make everyone believe he was dead.”
I shook my head.
“And you became a billionaire?”
“I built the company using the assets I had left.”
“Stolen money?”
“No.”
“Then where?”
Richard looked toward the window.
“Your father gave me the evidence.”
“What evidence?”
“The evidence that could destroy the people behind the scheme.”
He reached into a drawer.
Pulled out a folder.
Placed it on the table.
I opened it.
Names.
Bank accounts.
Property transfers.
Politicians.
Companies.
Then I saw one name.
A man who had been on television that morning.
A respected senator.
Richard whispered:
“He is still looking for the evidence.”
I looked up.
“And my father has it?”
Richard nodded.
“That’s why I offered you one billion.”
I stared at him.
“You thought I’d find him.”
“No.”
“Then why?”
“Because I needed you to disappear.”
Olivia stepped toward him.
“You wanted Daniel gone.”
Richard looked at her.
“I wanted him alive.”
He turned to me.
“Because the people hunting your father now know you’re looking for him.”
The room went silent.
Then every light in the house went out.
A gunshot came from outside.
