Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!

Chapter 9

We drove through the night.

No police.

No security convoy.

Just three people who no longer trusted anyone.

Olivia sat beside me.

Richard sat in the back.

For hours, he told us what he knew.

My father had been living under another name.

He had worked as a mechanic.

He had married again.

He had a daughter.

I had a half-sister.

The information hurt in ways I couldn’t explain.

My father had been alive all those years.

He had watched me grow from a distance.

Why?

Richard didn’t know.

We reached the village just before dawn.

The house was empty.

The door was open.

A cup of tea sat on the table.

Still warm.

My heart sank.

“He was here.”

Richard nodded.

On the wall was a photograph.

My father.

Me.

My mother.

Taken when I was five.

I touched it.

Then noticed something behind the frame.

A piece of paper.

Daniel, if you’re reading this, they know.

Richard’s face hardened.

“They came before us.”

We searched the house.

Nothing.

Then Olivia found a loose floorboard.

Underneath was a metal box.

Inside:

A passport.

A flash drive.

And a letter addressed to me.

I opened it.

My son,

I stopped.

I couldn’t continue.

Olivia touched my arm.

I read on.

If Richard brought you here, then he finally told you the truth.

My eyes burned.

I didn’t leave because I wanted to. I left because staying would have gotten you killed.

Then:

Your mother begged me to disappear. I promised her I would return when it was safe. It never became safe.

I sat down.

The letter continued.

I know you may hate me. You have every right. But everything I did was to keep you alive.

Then one final paragraph.

The evidence isn’t in the flash drive. The flash drive tells you where to find it. Trust no one except the person who refused the billion.

I stared at the sentence.

Richard looked at me.

“That’s you.”

I nodded.

Olivia smiled through tears.

Then the door exploded inward.

Men rushed inside.

Richard shouted:

“DOWN!”

Gunfire tore through the room.

We ran through the back door.

My father was nowhere.

But someone had left a trail.

Blood.

Leading toward the forest.
