Her Billionaire Father Offered Me ₦1 Billion to Leave Her… My Decision Changed My Life Forever!
Chapter 3
The next morning, I lost my job.
My manager called me into his office.
“Daniel, sit down.”
I knew immediately.
He wouldn’t look me in the eyes.
“What happened?”
He folded his hands.
“There are concerns about your position.”
“From whom?”
Silence.
“Mr. Bennett?”
He sighed.
“I didn’t say that.”
“You didn’t have to.”
He slid an envelope across the desk.
Severance.
Three months.
Not enough.
But more than enough to tell me what was happening.
I stood.
“Thank you.”
As I walked toward the door, he finally spoke.
“Daniel.”
I turned.
“He knows where you work.”
I nodded.
“I figured.”
Outside, I called Olivia.
She answered immediately.
“Where are you?”
“On my way to see you.”
“Are you okay?”
“No.”
She went silent.
“My father did this?”
“I don’t know.”
“You do.”
I didn’t answer.
She whispered:
“I’m sorry.”
I hated those words.
Not because she meant them.
Because they made me realize she had been dealing with this her entire life.
I met her at the waterfront.
She was standing beneath a tree, arms crossed against the wind.
When she saw me, she ran toward me.
I caught her.
For several seconds, neither of us spoke.
Then she pulled away.
“He fired you.”
I nodded.
“He bought your company?”
“Apparently.”
She closed her eyes.
“I’m going to confront him.”
“No.”
“Daniel.”
“Don’t.”
“Why?”
“Because that’s exactly what he wants.”
She stared at me.
“You’re afraid.”
“Yes.”
Her face softened.
“Of losing your job?”
“No.”
I took her hands.
“Of losing you.”
She looked at me.
Then she kissed me.
It wasn’t romantic.
It was desperate.
Like she was trying to prove something to both of us.
When we separated, she whispered:
“I won’t let him decide.”
I smiled.
Then my phone rang.
Unknown number.
I answered.
A man’s voice said:
“Your mother has an appointment at St. Mary’s tomorrow.”
I froze.
“How do you know that?”
The caller hung up.
Olivia saw my face.
“What happened?”
I looked at her.
“He knows about my mother.”
