Chapter 7

Ethan stared at her.

“A billionaire?”

Olivia nodded.

“You said you were wealthy.”

“I am.”

“You’re a billionaire.”

“Yes.”

He looked toward the conference room.

Everyone was pretending not to listen.

“You own this?”

“My family does.”

“Your family.”

“And I run most of it.”

Ethan laughed.

“You’ve got to be kidding.”

“I’m sorry.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I wanted to know if you’d treat me differently.”

Ethan shook his head.

“That is unfair.”

“I know.”

“You should have trusted me.”

“I didn’t know you.”

“You knew enough to ask me to pretend to date you.”

She looked down.

“You’re right.”

Ethan sighed.

He wasn’t angry because she had money.

He was angry because she had hidden it.

“What else don’t I know?”

“Nothing important.”

“That isn’t reassuring.”

Olivia smiled.

“I’m sorry.”

He looked at her.

Then he laughed.

“Okay.”

“What?”

“I’ll survive.”

She smiled.

“You’re not going to leave?”

“No.”

“Why?”

Ethan thought about it.

“Because I gave you my word.”

Her expression softened.

“Thank you.”

“But after this weekend, we talk.”

“Deal.”

The meeting began.

Ethan sat quietly in the corner.

He watched Olivia change.

She wasn’t the nervous woman from the café.

She was confident.

Decisive.

Sharp.

She challenged budgets.

Questioned executives.

Demanded accountability.

And when one director tried to dismiss a community housing proposal, Olivia stopped him.

“No.”

The room went silent.

“That project isn’t optional.”

“But the return—”

“I’m not measuring its value only in profit.”

Ethan watched her.

He suddenly understood.

Olivia wasn’t simply rich.

She cared about what happened to people.

That mattered more to him than the money.

When the meeting ended, she approached him.

“Well?”

He smiled.

“You’re terrifying.”

She laughed.

“Thank you.”

“I meant it as a compliment.”
