Chapter 6

The next morning, Ethan woke to a strange feeling.

He had forgotten where he was.

Then he heard Lily laughing downstairs.

He got dressed quickly.

When he entered the kitchen, he found Olivia making pancakes with Lily.

“What are you doing?”

Olivia looked over.

“Your daughter says you burn pancakes.”

Lily nodded.

“He does.”

Ethan put his hands on his hips.

“Traitor.”

Olivia laughed.

“Sit.”

He sat.

Lily placed a pancake in front of him.

“It looks like a map.”

“It does not.”

“It looks like Florida.”

Olivia laughed so hard she had to put down the spatula.

Ethan watched her.

Something about the scene felt strangely familiar.

Like a family.

He immediately pushed the thought away.

This wasn’t real.

It was a weekend.

Nothing more.

After breakfast, Olivia asked Ethan to accompany her to the family foundation.

“I have a meeting.”

“With your family?”

“No. With the board.”

Ethan followed her into the car.

He noticed the driver.

“Where are we going?”

“Bennett Foundation headquarters.”

He looked at her.

“Your family owns the foundation?”

She smiled.

“Sort of.”

The building was enormous.

Employees greeted Olivia as they entered.

Everyone seemed to know her.

A security guard opened a private elevator.

Ethan glanced at Olivia.

“What’s going on?”

“What?”

“Why is everyone treating you like you’re important?”

She laughed.

“Because I am.”

The elevator doors opened.

They entered an executive floor.

A receptionist stood immediately.

“Good morning, Ms. Bennett.”

“Good morning.”

Ethan looked around.

A large wall displayed photographs of hospitals, schools, shelters, and community programs.

Olivia walked toward a conference room.

The door opened.

Everyone inside stood.

Ethan stopped.

Olivia turned.

“What?”

He pointed toward the room.

“Who are all these people?”

“My executives.”

Ethan stared.

“Your what?”

She smiled nervously.

“I was going to tell you.”

“Tell me what?”

Olivia took a breath.

“I’m not just wealthy.”

She looked at him.

“I’m a billionaire.”
