My Fiancé Went Back to His First Love—So I Married Her Billionaire Fiancé Instead

Chapter 7

Their marriage became a media obsession.

Emily tried to ignore it.

Alexander was better at that.

He simply stopped reading the news.

But Victoria didn’t.

She watched every interview.

Every photograph.

Every appearance.

And she became increasingly angry.

The Blackwell-Sinclair merger was now impossible.

Alexander had blocked every attempt.

Emily had taken control of her inheritance.

And the trust lawyers refused to cooperate with Victoria.

So Victoria changed strategy.

She attacked Emily’s reputation.

Anonymous accusations appeared online.

Emily had supposedly trapped Alexander for money.

She had supposedly manipulated him into marriage.

She had supposedly stolen Jacob away from Victoria.

The lies spread quickly.

Emily wanted to respond.

Alexander told her not to.

“Why?”

“Because they want you emotional.”

“They are ruining my name.”

“They’ll stop when they lose evidence.”

“And if they don’t?”

“Then we make them.”

Emily stared at him.

“How?”

Alexander opened a folder.

“Financial records.”

They discovered that Victoria had been moving money through several companies.

The money eventually reached Daniel Ross.

The same man from the photograph.

Emily looked at the documents.

“She paid him.”

“Yes.”

“For what?”

Alexander pointed to several transactions.

“Surveillance.”

Emily’s blood ran cold.

“They were watching us.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“To learn where your trust assets were held.”

Emily looked at him.

“Did they succeed?”

“No.”

“Then why are they still trying?”

Alexander’s expression hardened.

“Because there’s more than money.”

He showed her a document.

A corporate agreement.

At first Emily didn’t understand.

Then she saw her father’s signature.

Her father had created a private voting structure.

Whoever controlled her shares could influence several companies.

Including Blackwell Industries.

Emily stared.

“They don’t just want my money.”

“No.”

“They want my voting rights.”

“Yes.”

“So if Victoria gets me to sign something…”

“She controls the company.”

Emily felt sick.

Then she realized something else.

“Jacob.”

Alexander nodded.

“He may have been used to get me to sign.”

Emily sat down.

She thought about the relationship she had once trusted.

The engagement.

The promises.

The wedding plans.

Had Jacob ever intended to marry her?

Or had someone always been watching her inheritance?

That evening, Jacob came to the Blackwell Tower.

Security tried to stop him.

Alexander allowed him inside.

Jacob entered the room.

He looked exhausted.

“I need to talk to Emily.”

Alexander stepped aside.

Emily faced him.

“What do you want?”

Jacob looked at her ring.

“I made a terrible mistake.”

“That doesn’t explain why you’re here.”

“Victoria lied to me.”

Emily laughed sadly.

“You knew she was manipulating you.”

“I didn’t know about the trust.”

“You knew enough.”

Jacob lowered his eyes.

“I loved you.”

Emily stared.

“You loved me until she came back.”

“No.”

“Then until you saw my money.”

He shook his head.

“I swear that’s not true.”

She wanted to believe him.

But she couldn’t.

Jacob handed her a flash drive.

“What is this?”

“Everything I know.”

“About Victoria?”

“Yes.”

Emily took it.

“Why now?”

Jacob looked toward Alexander.

“Because she’s planning something.”

“What?”

“She wants to force the merger.”

“How?”

Jacob whispered:

“She plans to use your mother.”

Emily froze.

“My mother is dead.”

Jacob nodded.

“I know.”

He looked terrified.

“But someone has been using her identity.”
