My Fiancé Went Back to His First Love—So I Married Her Billionaire Fiancé Instead

Chapter 13

A year after the arrests, Emily stood in front of hundreds of employees.

The old corporate culture was gone.

The new one was built around trust.

Every major deal was reviewed independently.

Employee complaints went directly to an ethics board.

Family members could no longer secretly control company decisions.

And the trust her father had built now funded scholarships and small-business grants.

Emily looked out at the crowd.

“I inherited a fortune.”

She paused.

“But I also inherited mistakes.”

The room became quiet.

“My family made choices based on power.”

She looked at Alexander.

“I don’t want to repeat them.”

Applause filled the room.

Later, Emily returned to her office.

Alexander was waiting.

“You were good.”

“I was nervous.”

“You never look nervous.”

She laughed.

“You should see me before breakfast.”

He smiled.

Then he handed her an envelope.

“What is this?”

“Open it.”

Inside was a boarding pass.

Paris.

She looked at him.

“Why?”

“We’re taking a vacation.”

“We have work.”

“Yes.”

She smiled.

“You’re impossible.”

“I know.”

She leaned over and kissed him.

Then her phone rang.

It was Jacob.

She hesitated.

Alexander didn’t react.

“Answer it.”

She did.

“Hello?”

Jacob’s voice was quieter now.

“I heard about the foundation.”

“Yes.”

“You helped my sister.”

Emily frowned.

“What?”

Jacob explained.

Victoria’s younger sister had been left with nothing after the investigation.

Emily’s foundation had helped her reopen a small business.

“I didn’t know she was involved.”

“She wasn’t.”

Jacob paused.

“You haven’t changed.”

Emily smiled.

“I hope I have.”

“I wanted to apologize again.”

“You already did.”

“I know.”

“Then let it stay in the past.”

Jacob was silent.

“Are you happy?”

Emily looked at Alexander.

“Yes.”

“Good.”

The call ended.

Alexander looked at her.

“You didn’t hesitate.”

“No.”

“About what?”

“Choosing you.”

He smiled.

They left for Paris two days later.

For the first time, there was no agenda.

No investigation.

No business deal.

No secret.

They walked through the city holding hands.

Emily realized how strange peace felt.

She had spent so long expecting the next betrayal.

Now she was beginning to trust happiness.

One evening, Alexander took her to a quiet restaurant overlooking the river.

He reached into his pocket.

Emily laughed.

“Are you proposing again?”

“No.”

“Good.”

He pulled out a small key.

“To what?”

“Our house.”

She stared.

“You bought a house?”

“Not bought.”

“Then?”

“I had it built.”

“For us?”

“Yes.”

Emily smiled.

“How long?”

“Eight months.”

“You were building a house while we were fighting criminals?”

“Yes.”

She laughed.

“You really do everything at once.”

He smiled.

“I wanted a place that belonged to neither family.”

Emily’s eyes softened.

“Just us.”

“Just us.”

They returned home weeks later.

The house was simple by billionaire standards.

Warm.

Quiet.

Full of books.

There was a garden.

A library.

A kitchen Emily loved.

And a small room Alexander had turned into a writing space for her.

She stared.

“You remembered.”

“I remember everything.”

Emily walked toward him.

“I love you.”

Alexander smiled.

“I know.”

She frowned.

“That’s all?”

He laughed.

“I love you too.”

She kissed him.

The woman who once believed her life had ended because her fiancé chose someone else had finally discovered the truth.

Sometimes losing the wrong person isn’t the end.

Sometimes it’s the beginning.
