My Fiancé Went Back to His First Love—So I Married Her Billionaire Fiancé Instead

Chapter 14

Three years later, Emily stood outside a courthouse holding a small bouquet.

Not for herself.

For Jacob.

He had married someone else.

A kind woman who knew about his past and chose to believe he could become better.

Emily was there because she had finally learned that forgiveness didn’t require returning to the past.

Jacob approached her.

“You came.”

“Of course.”

He smiled.

“You look happy.”

“I am.”

He glanced at Alexander.

“Very.”

Alexander stood a few feet away, talking with Emily’s father.

Jacob smiled.

“He’s good for you.”

“Yes.”

“I used to think I was losing you.”

Emily looked at him.

“You were.”

He laughed softly.

“That sounds harsh.”

“It’s true.”

“I know.”

He paused.

“I hope you understand something.”

“What?”

“I don’t think Victoria was my first love anymore.”

Emily raised an eyebrow.

“What changed?”

“I realized the person I loved most was someone I didn’t understand until it was too late.”

Emily smiled.

“You loved an idea of me.”

“Yes.”

“And not the real me.”

“Yes.”

They hugged.

Then Jacob walked toward his bride.

Emily watched him.

There was no anger.

No jealousy.

Just peace.

Her father joined her.

“Are you sure you forgive him?”

Emily smiled.

“I don’t need to forgive everything.”

“What do you mean?”

“I forgave myself.”

Her father looked at her.

“For what?”

“For believing I wasn’t enough.”

He hugged her.

Later that evening, Emily and Alexander returned home.

Their life had become quieter.

They had built a successful company.

Their foundation had helped thousands.

Their marriage was strong.

Not because they never argued.

Because they talked.

Not because they never feared betrayal.

Because they chose honesty.

One evening, Alexander found Emily sitting in the garden.

“What are you thinking about?”

“The wedding.”

“Our wedding?”

“No.”

She smiled.

“Jacob’s.”

Alexander sat beside her.

“Were you sad?”

“No.”

“Not even a little?”

Emily looked at him.

“Do you want the honest answer?”

“Always.”

“I was grateful.”

“For what?”

“That he left.”

Alexander laughed.

“That’s a dangerous thing to say to your husband.”

She leaned against him.

“If he hadn’t gone back to Victoria, I would never have met you.”

“That’s true.”

“You would never have proposed.”

“Also true.”

“And I would never have discovered my father was alive.”

Alexander nodded.

“But I don’t think everything happened for a reason.”

Emily looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

“I think we made something good from something bad.”

She smiled.

“That sounds more realistic.”

They stayed there quietly.

Then Alexander reached into his pocket.

Emily groaned.

“What now?”

He pulled out a folded paper.

“Business proposal.”

She laughed.

“That’s romantic.”

He handed it to her.

It was the plan for a new foundation campus.

Named after Emily’s mother.

Emily read it.

Her eyes filled with tears.

“You did this?”

“We did.”

She hugged him.

“Thank you.”

He whispered:

“You changed my life too.”

Emily smiled.

“I think we changed each other.”

They kissed.

The past remained behind them.

Not erased.

Not forgotten.

Simply understood.
