My Fiancé Went Back to His First Love—So I Married Her Billionaire Fiancé Instead

Chapter 1

The wedding invitations were already printed when Emily Carter discovered her fiancé had gone back to his first love.

Not metaphorically.

Not emotionally.

He had literally left her for the woman he had once promised he would never love again.

Emily was sitting alone in the living room of their apartment when the front door opened.

Jacob stepped inside.

He didn’t take off his coat.

He didn’t kiss her.

He simply stood there.

Emily immediately knew something was wrong.

“What happened?”

Jacob looked at her for several seconds.

Then he said the sentence that broke eight years of her life.

“I can’t marry you.”

Emily stared at him.

“What?”

“I’m sorry.”

Her heart started pounding.

“Why?”

He looked away.

“She’s back.”

Emily felt the room spin.

“She?”

Jacob swallowed.

“Victoria.”

Emily knew that name.

Everyone did.

Victoria Sinclair had been Jacob’s first love in college.

They had dated for three years before she left for Europe.

Jacob had spent months heartbroken.

Then he met Emily.

She believed the past was finished.

She was wrong.

“Victoria is back?”

“Yes.”

“And?”

Jacob rubbed his face.

“We talked.”

“You talked.”

“She wants another chance.”

Emily laughed in disbelief.

“Another chance?”

Jacob nodded.

“You said she left you.”

“She made a mistake.”

“And now you think I should pay for it?”

“That’s not what this is.”

“It certainly feels like it.”

Jacob sat down.

“Emily, I never stopped loving her.”

Those seven words hurt more than anything else.

Emily stared at the engagement ring on her finger.

For two years, she had worn it proudly.

She had planned their wedding.

She had booked the venue.

She had chosen flowers.

She had spent nights imagining their future.

And now he was telling her that none of it mattered.

“You were going to marry me while still loving her?”

Jacob looked ashamed.

“I thought I could move on.”

“You thought wrong.”

Silence filled the room.

Then Jacob stood.

“I’ll pay back the deposits.”

Emily looked at him.

“You think this is about money?”

“No.”

“This is about you choosing someone else after asking me to build a life with you.”

“I know.”

He picked up his bag.

Emily watched him walk toward the door.

“Jacob.”

He stopped.

She wanted to say something powerful.

Something that would make him regret leaving.

Instead, she asked:

“Was I ever enough?”

Jacob turned around.

His eyes filled with guilt.

“You were wonderful.”

Emily’s chest tightened.

“That wasn’t my question.”

He had no answer.

Then he left.

The door closed.

Emily sat there for almost an hour.

She cried.

Then she stopped.

Something inside her became strangely calm.

She removed the engagement ring.

Placed it on the table.

And stared at it.

At that moment, her phone rang.

It was her best friend, Natalie.

Emily answered.

“Hello?”

Natalie immediately sensed something.

“What happened?”

Emily looked at the unopened wedding invitations stacked on the table.

“Jacob left.”

Silence.

“For Victoria.”

Another silence.

Then Natalie whispered:

“Oh, Emily.”

Emily closed her eyes.

“I want to disappear.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I feel humiliated.”

“You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I know.”

Emily looked at the ring.

Then something unexpected happened.

She received an email.

The sender was a name she recognized.

Alexander Blackwell.

Victoria Sinclair’s fiancé.

Alexander was one of the wealthiest businessmen in the country.

He was thirty-four.

Quiet.

Private.

Almost impossible to read in the media.

And according to every gossip magazine, he and Victoria were supposed to be married in three weeks.

The email contained only one line.

I believe we have the same problem.

Emily stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

Can we meet?

For the first time that day, she stopped crying.

Because suddenly, the man whose fiancée had stolen her wedding had just contacted her.

And he sounded like he wanted to talk.
