Olivia told me something I didn’t know.
Daniel’s parents had been pressuring him for years.
They wanted Noah to return permanently.
They wanted their grandson close.
And they believed marriage was the only way to make that happen.
“Why didn’t Daniel tell me?”
“Because he knew you’d leave.”
I laughed bitterly.
“So he lied to keep me.”
“Yes.”
“Does he love me?”
Olivia looked at me.
“I think he does.”
“Then why?”
“Because loving someone doesn’t automatically make you brave.”
Those words hurt.
But they were true.
Olivia reached into her bag.
She took out a photograph.
Daniel and Noah.
Father and son.
“You love him,” she said.
“Yes.”
“Then don’t become another person who teaches him that he can avoid consequences.”
I looked at her.
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t wait.”
I felt tears forming.
“I don’t know how.”
“Then learn.”
That night, I deleted Daniel’s message history.
Not because I stopped loving him.
Because I finally understood that loving him didn’t require me to abandon myself.
