I stared at her name on the screen.
I almost blocked her.

“Hello?”
“Emma?”
“Yes.”
“Can we meet?”

“Why?”
“Because there are things you should know.”
We met at a quiet restaurant.
Olivia arrived alone.
She wasn’t what I expected.
She didn’t look angry.
She didn’t look triumphant.
She looked exhausted.
“I know about you,” she said.
I nodded.
“I know about the marriage.”
She smiled sadly.
“I refused.”
“Why?”
“Because Noah deserves a healthy relationship with both parents.”
I stared at her.
“You don’t want Daniel back?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Then why did he say—”
“He wants to believe I do.”
Her answer shocked me.
Olivia explained that she had spent years building a life overseas.
Daniel had never asked her to come back.
He had only recently become desperate because his parents were pressuring him.
“He wants a legal solution,” she said.
“And I became the solution?”
“You became the backup solution.”
My throat tightened.
Olivia looked at me carefully.
“I don’t hate you.”
“Why would you?”
“Because I used to be the woman waiting for him to make a decision.”
I stared at her.

“Daniel has always been afraid of making choices.”
