His Ex-Girlfriend Came Back With Their Son — And Suddenly I Became His Backup Plan
Chapter 11
Daniel didn’t leave immediately.
He stood there for a long time.
Then he said:
“What do you want me to do?”
I smiled sadly.
“That’s the problem.”
“What?”
“You keep asking me to tell you what choice to make.”
He looked down.
“I need you to choose for yourself.”
“I want you.”
“I know.”
“I don’t want to lose you.”
“I know.”
“But I need my son.”
“I know.”
“Then why can’t we have all of it?”
“Maybe you can.”
He looked at me.
“But not by pretending.”
That was the moment Daniel finally understood.
He didn’t need to marry Olivia to be Noah’s father.
He didn’t need to keep me waiting to prove that he loved me.
He simply needed to take responsibility for his own choices.
“I won’t marry her,” he said.
I didn’t answer.
“I’ll figure out how to stay close to Noah without lying to anyone.”
Still, I said nothing.
“And I won’t ask you to wait.”
That finally made me look at him.
He continued.
“If someday you still want me, I’ll be here.”
My heart hurt.
But for the first time, it wasn’t because he was asking me to stay.
It was because he was finally letting me go.
