He Brought His New Lover to Humiliate His Ex-Wife — Then Her Billionaire Father Walked In

Chapter 9

Victoria had disappeared.

Her phone was off.

Her apartment was empty.

Emma called Daniel.

He answered immediately.

“Where is she?”

Daniel’s voice was tense.

“I don’t know.”

“She’s been seen with Nathan.”

Daniel went silent.

Then:

“Where?”

Emma told him.

Daniel swore.

“I warned her.”

“What did he want?”

“I don’t know.”

“You’re lying.”

“I swear I’m not.”

Emma ended the call.

She and Marcus drove to the location.

It was an abandoned warehouse outside Brooklyn.

The door was unlocked.

Inside, they found Victoria’s purse.

Nothing else.

Then Emma saw a table.

On it was an old photograph.

Her mother.

Standing beside Nathan Carter.

Emma froze.

Her mother had known him.

She turned the photograph over.

A date was written on the back.

Three months before Emma was born.

Marcus looked at her.

“Did your mother ever mention him?”

“No.”

Emma felt dizzy.

Then they heard footsteps.

A man appeared at the far end of the warehouse.

Nathan.

Older than the photographs.

But unmistakably alive.

Marcus reached for his phone.

Nathan raised his hand.

“Don’t.”

Emma stepped forward.

“Where is Victoria?”

“She is safe.”

“Where?”

“She left.”

“Why?”

“Because she finally learned the truth.”

Emma stared at him.

“What truth?”

Nathan smiled sadly.

“That your father isn’t the hero you think he is.”

Emma felt anger rising.

“Tell me what happened.”

Nathan looked at the photograph.

“Your mother knew.”

“Knew what?”

“She knew why Daniel married you.”

Emma’s blood ran cold.

“Why?”

Nathan looked directly into her eyes.

“Because your mother asked him to.”

Emma couldn’t move.

“What?”

Nathan walked backward.

“You’re asking the wrong question, Emma.”

“What should I ask?”

“Ask your father why your mother wanted you married to a Carter.”

Then he disappeared through a side door.

Emma stood in silence.

The mystery had just become something far more personal.
