He Brought His New Lover to Humiliate His Ex-Wife — Then Her Billionaire Father Walked In

Chapter 6

The mysterious man in the recording became Emma’s obsession.

Marcus eventually identified him.

His name was Nathan Carter.

Daniel’s uncle.

Emma had never met him.

According to Daniel, Nathan had left the country years earlier.

According to public records, Nathan had died fifteen years ago.

But the financial documents told a different story.

Money had moved between accounts connected to Nathan.

Large amounts.

Recently.

Emma stared at the records.

“Someone is using a dead man’s accounts.”

Marcus nodded.

“Or Nathan isn’t dead.”

Richard remained silent.

Emma looked at him.

“Dad?”

Richard slowly sat down.

“There are things about the Carter family I never told you.”

Emma’s stomach tightened.

“What things?”

“Your grandfather knew Nathan.”

“How?”

“They were business partners.”

Emma frowned.

“My grandfather never mentioned the Carters.”

“He had reasons.”

“What reasons?”

Richard didn’t answer.

Emma stood.

“I need the truth.”

Richard looked at her.

“Your grandfather believed the Carter family wanted control of Sterling Holdings.”

Emma laughed nervously.

“That’s impossible.”

“It isn’t.”

“How does Daniel fit into this?”

“I don’t know.”

Emma thought about the recording.

Daniel had been planning something.

But perhaps he wasn’t acting alone.

That night, Emma returned to the old house where she and Daniel had lived.

The place was empty.

She searched through the remaining boxes.

Then she found a hidden compartment inside an old desk.

Inside was an envelope.

Her name was written on it.

Emma.

She opened it.

The letter was from Daniel.

But the date was from before their wedding.

Emma began reading.

The first sentence made her stop breathing.

I need to tell you something before we get married, but I’m afraid you’ll never forgive me.

Emma continued.

Then her phone rang.

Unknown number.

She answered.

A man’s voice whispered:

“Stop searching.”

Emma froze.

“Who are you?”

“You already know.”

“Nathan?”

Silence.

Then the voice said:

“Daniel isn’t the person you should be afraid of.”

The call ended.

Emma stared at the phone.

Suddenly, the letter in her hand felt much heavier.
