She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There
Chapter 7
Victoria noticed before either of them admitted anything.
One evening, while Emma was preparing dinner for Oliver, Victoria gently asked:
“Do you and Ethan get along?”
Emma almost dropped the spoon.
“He’s… fine.”
Victoria smiled.
“He likes you.”
Emma laughed nervously.
“He’s just being nice.”
Victoria didn’t argue.
Later that night, Ethan found Emma on the back terrace.
“You’ve been avoiding me.”
“No.”
“Yes.”
“Maybe I’m busy.”
“You’re hiding.”
She sighed.
“I don’t belong here.”
He frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“Your family pays me.”
“So?”
“You know exactly what I mean.”
He stepped closer.
“I don’t care about that.”
“But everyone else does.”
“I don’t.”
“You’re not enough to cancel everyone else’s opinion.”
He looked hurt.
“Maybe you’re wrong.”
Emma shook her head.
“I can’t afford to be.”
She walked away.
For the first time, Ethan understood that liking Emma wasn’t enough.
He would have to prove that he wasn’t just another rich man playing with someone’s feelings.
