She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There
Chapter 12
One afternoon, Emma was picking Oliver up from school when she saw a woman waiting outside.
Elegant.
Confident.
Familiar with the Harper family.
She introduced herself as Ethan’s former girlfriend.
“You must be Emma.”
Emma nodded.
“I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Emma felt uncomfortable.
The woman smiled.
“Ethan gets bored easily.”
Emma’s expression hardened.
“I’m not bored.”
The woman laughed.
“You’ll see.”
That evening, Ethan found Emma unusually quiet.
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
“Emma.”
She told him.
He sighed.
“She’s trying to get a reaction.”
“Did she matter?”
“Once.”
Emma looked away.
“That’s what I’m afraid of.”
He stepped closer.
“She was my past.”
“And me?”
“My present.”
He took her hand.
“And if you’re willing, I want you to be my future.”
Emma looked at him.
“That’s a dangerous thing to promise.”
“I know.”
“Then don’t promise.”
He smiled.
“Okay.”
“Just prove it.”
“I can do that.”
