She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There
Chapter 8
A week later, Ethan’s friends threw a huge party.
Emma was working that evening.
Oliver was sleeping upstairs.
Ethan returned home late.
He found Emma sitting in the kitchen with a textbook.
“You’re still awake?”
“I have an exam tomorrow.”
He poured himself water.
“Want help?”
She laughed.
“With what?”
“Nothing.”
He sat opposite her.
For the next hour, he stayed.
No flirting.
No teasing.
Just company.
At midnight, Emma looked up.
“Why are you still here?”
“Because you looked tired.”
She smiled.
“You’re not who I thought you were.”
“Neither are you.”
“What did you think?”
“That you were spoiled.”
She laughed.
“I am.”
“Not really.”
“Don’t tell my parents.”
He smiled.
Silence.
Then Ethan reached across the table.
His fingers touched hers.
Emma didn’t move.
He looked at her.
“I don’t know when this happened.”
“What?”
“You.”
Her eyes softened.
He started to say more.
Then his phone rang.
His father.
Ethan stood.
“I have to take this.”
Emma nodded.
He walked away.
But she sat there long after he left, staring at the hand he had touched.
