She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There
Chapter 4
The first time Ethan saw Emma dressed for a university event, he barely recognized her.
She had been invited to an academic reception because of her scholarship.
She wore a simple black dress.
Nothing flashy.
Nothing expensive.
But she looked beautiful.
Ethan stared.
“You clean up well.”
Emma looked at him.
“That almost sounded like a compliment.”
“It was.”
“Are you sick?”
He laughed.
They arrived separately.
Inside the venue, Ethan’s friends gathered around him.
A girl named Lauren touched his arm.
“Are you really going to the party tonight?”
“Probably.”
She smiled.
Then she noticed Emma.
“Isn’t she the nanny?”
Emma heard.
Her stomach tightened.
Ethan’s expression changed.
“She’s an architecture student.”
Lauren raised an eyebrow.
“Same thing.”
Emma turned away.
Ethan followed her.
“Ignore her.”
“You should go back.”
“Why?”
“Because she belongs in your world.”
He stared at her.
“What world?”
“The one where nobody asks if you got a scholarship.”
His expression softened.
“Maybe I don’t want that world tonight.”
Emma looked at him.
For one dangerous second, she thought he meant her.
Then Lauren called his name.
Emma stepped back.
“Go.”
Ethan watched her walk away.
He had never hated the distance between two people more.
