She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There

Chapter 3

At Westbridge, Ethan Harper was used to attention.

People moved toward him.

Emma moved away.

That fascinated him.

They shared two classes.

He started noticing things.

She always arrived early.

She took handwritten notes.

She bought coffee only when it was discounted.

She never joined the expensive student clubs.

And every Thursday, she disappeared immediately after class.

One afternoon, Ethan followed her.

She didn’t notice.

He watched her enter a campus tutoring center.

She spent three hours helping first-year students with mathematics.

When she emerged, he was waiting outside.

“What are you doing here?”

She frowned.

“Working.”

“You work here too?”

“Yes.”

“You have another job.”

“Several.”

He stared at her.

“Why?”

Emma shrugged.

“I need money.”

“You live at our house.”

“That doesn’t make me rich.”

He smiled.

“I know.”

She looked at him.

Something about his answer sounded different.

Less arrogant.

More honest.

“Why do you care?”

“I don’t know.”

That evening, Ethan went home and found Emma helping Oliver with a puzzle.

He stood in the doorway.

Oliver looked up.

“Ethan! Emma says I’m good at math.”

“She lies.”

Emma threw a pillow at him.

He caught it.

For some reason, Ethan stayed in the room.

He watched Emma explain fractions to a six-year-old.

He had seen hundreds of people impressed by his family.

Emma seemed impressed by almost nothing.

And that made him want her attention more than he had expected.
