She Sat Down At My Table And Said, ‘My Ex Is Watching’… A Year Later His Daughter Called Me Daddy
Chapter 11
Andrew Blake had once been my closest friend.
We built a small construction company together in our twenties.
Then he betrayed me.
He took money.
Disappeared.
I never saw him again.
Until that document.
Now he owned Northstar Holdings.
And Northstar had been quietly buying property throughout Grayhaven.
The land under Lily’s trust was the final piece.
Andrew wasn’t working for Ryan.
Ryan was working for him.
The realization changed everything.
Ryan had been the visible threat.
Andrew was the strategist.
We spent the next day tracing corporate records.
Northstar had purchased three companies that supplied the city.
One controlled local security.
Another controlled construction permits.
The third controlled private investigators.
Andrew had built influence quietly.
He didn’t need to threaten everyone.
He only needed the right people.
Michael found another link.
A payment from Northstar to Robert Cross.
Then one to Ryan.
Then one to a private investigator who had been following Claire.
Everything connected.
We took the evidence to the federal task force.
This time, they moved fast.
Warrants were issued.
Northstar’s offices were searched.
Bank accounts were frozen.
Ryan was questioned.
Robert was detained.
But Andrew disappeared.
Again.
He left one thing behind.
A message to me.
You should have stayed out of family business.
I replied:
She is my family.
No response came.
That evening, Claire saw the message.
“You didn’t have to say that.”
“Yes, I did.”
She smiled.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
She touched my hand.
“Do you think he will stop?”
“No.”
She sighed.
“Neither do I.”
The next morning, Andrew made his move.
A legal filing appeared.
He claimed the original trust was invalid.
Why?
Because my father and Claire’s father had allegedly created it using funds obtained through illegal business activity.
If the court accepted the claim, the trust could be dissolved.
The entire land could be sold.
Michael read the filing.
“He has fabricated evidence.”
“How do we prove it?”
“We need the original trust records.”
“Where are they?”
Michael looked at Claire.
“Your father’s safety-deposit box.”
She froze.
“My father had one?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“Old Grayhaven Bank.”
We went there immediately.
The bank manager opened the box.
Inside were original contracts.
Letters.
Photos.
And a recording.
Claire pressed play.
Her father’s voice.
“If Andrew ever appears, do not trust him.”
I stared.
“How did he know?”
The recording continued.
“Andrew is the only person who knows what Robert planned to do.”
I looked at Claire.
Her father had predicted it all.
But then another voice appeared.
My father.
“Jonathan, if you are hearing this, then we failed.”
Silence.
He continued.
“The land must stay with the children.”
I closed my eyes.
Then came the sentence that changed everything.
“If Daniel and Claire ever meet, do not tell them the full truth at once.”
Claire looked at me.
“Why?”
“Because if they trust each other, the land is safe.”
The recording ended.
We stared at one another.
Our fathers had planned the trust around a future neither of them could predict.
And somehow, it had led us here.
Then the bank manager handed us another envelope.
“This was delivered yesterday.”
My name was written on it.
Inside was a photograph.
Andrew.
Holding Lily’s hand.
Taken outside her school.
Yesterday.
Claire screamed.
