She Sat Down At My Table And Said, ‘My Ex Is Watching’… A Year Later His Daughter Called Me Daddy

Chapter 12

Lily was safe.

The photograph had been taken weeks earlier.

But we didn’t know that immediately.

For several minutes, Claire couldn’t breathe.

She kept saying Lily’s name.

I held her.

“She is safe.”

“How do you know?”

“Because she’s with Noah.”

Claire stared at me.

“Noah?”

“My mother picked him up from school.”

That was enough to calm her.

For a moment.

Then we called the police.

The photograph proved Andrew had been monitoring Lily.

That gave investigators probable cause to arrest him.

But Andrew remained missing.

Then Noah came home.

He was carrying something.

A small envelope.

He handed it to me.

“Someone gave this to me.”

My stomach dropped.

“Who?”

“A man.”

“What man?”

“I don’t know.”

“What did he say?”

“That he knew Dad.”

I opened the envelope.

Inside was a memory card.

A video.

Andrew appeared on screen.

Daniel,

“You were always too loyal.”

He explained his plan.

Ryan was never the main target.

Claire wasn’t either.

Lily was.

The land had been placed in trust because of an old debt.

Andrew wanted to acquire the property for a massive redevelopment.

He had spent years buying surrounding land.

Now only one parcel remained.

The trust.

He needed Lily’s inheritance to become compromised.

That was why Ryan had stalked Claire.

Why he had tried to frighten Lily.

Why Robert had signed the transfer.

He needed enough chaos to trigger the legal clauses.

Then he would step in as the buyer.

But there was more.

Andrew admitted the fire.

The threats.

The fake evidence.

And the attempted abduction.

Then he said something that stunned me.

“Your father knew.”

I froze.

Andrew claimed my father had once agreed to sell the land.

He changed his mind.

That was why Andrew betrayed him.

I couldn’t believe it.

“My father never told me.”

Claire watched me.

“Do you believe him?”

I shook my head.

“No.”

The video ended.

The memory card contained metadata.

A location.

An abandoned factory outside the city.

Police surrounded it.

Andrew was there.

He surrendered.

The arrest ended the immediate threat.

But the final hearing remained.

The trust case.

The land.

The future of Claire and Lily.

In court, Michael presented the original records.

Andrew’s confession was played.

The payments were shown.

The threats were authenticated.

The judge rejected the claim against the trust.

The land remained protected.

An independent trustee was appointed permanently.

Robert was removed.

Ryan was denied custody and ordered into supervised contact only after completing treatment and court-ordered counseling.

Claire had full legal protection.

For the first time, she could breathe.

Outside the courthouse, Lily ran toward me.

“Daddy!”

I froze.

Claire froze too.

Lily wrapped her arms around my waist.

She looked up.

“You said you’d stay.”

I swallowed hard.

“I am.”

She smiled.

“Good.”

Claire watched us.

Tears filled her eyes.

She walked over.

“Lily…”

The little girl looked at her.

“What?”

Claire smiled through tears.

“Nothing.”

She kissed her daughter’s forehead.

Then looked at me.

“You heard her.”

“Yes.”

“What are you thinking?”

“That I might cry.”

Claire laughed.

“Me too.”

We stood there holding each other.

For the first time, the future wasn’t uncertain.

Then Claire whispered,

“Would you really want this?”

I looked at her.

“This?”

“Us.”

I smiled.

“I already chose us.”
