Adrian stood outside the Bellmont Theater.

Sophie almost didn’t recognize him.

Not because he looked different.

Because she no longer saw him through the lens of who he had been.

“Hi.”

She smiled.

“Hi.”

They walked together.

“How’s London?”

“Still there.”

She laughed.

“How’s LA?”

“Still here.”

He nodded.

Then he said:

“I don’t want to talk about what happened.”

Sophie looked at him.

“Okay.”

“I want to know who you are now.”

That surprised her.

“Why?”

“Because I think I only knew the version of you who was waiting for me.”

She smiled.

“That girl is gone.”

“Good.”

He looked toward the theater.

“I’d like to meet the woman who replaced her.”
