He surprised Sophie outside her studio.
She ran into his arms.

Then Julian arrived.
He had come to deliver the final model.
His eyes met Adrian’s.
“You’re Adrian.”
Adrian smiled politely.
“Julian.”
The handshake lasted one second too long.
That evening, Sophie and Adrian sat on her balcony.
“You care about him.”
Sophie froze.
“Julian?”
“Yes.”
“He’s my friend.”
“I didn’t say otherwise.”
She looked away.
Adrian leaned back.
“I’m not angry.”
“Then why are you asking?”
“Because I need to know something.”
“What?”
“Are you waiting for me because you still want me…”
He paused.
“…or because you’re afraid to stop waiting?”
Sophie didn’t answer.
Adrian nodded slowly.
“I thought so.”
