Caleb’s arrival turned into chaos.
He hugged Sophie.
Then Julian.
Then Adrian.
“Look at us,” he said.
“Adults.”
Julian laughed.
“Debatable.”
They spent the evening together.
Talking.
Eating.
Arguing about movies.
It felt strange.
And familiar.
At some point Adrian and Julian began discussing a possible development project.
Sophie listened.
Two men who had once occupied completely different parts of her life were now standing beside each other, discussing the same vision.
Caleb watched her.
“You look happy.”
“I am.”
“With who?”
Sophie laughed.
“That’s not how this works anymore.”
Caleb smiled.
“Good.”
Later that night, Adrian walked Sophie home.
“I have a question.”
She looked at him.
“Okay.”
“Would you build something with me?”
Her heart raced.
“What?”
“A real project.”
He smiled.
“Not a promise. Not a plan for the next ten years.”
He stepped closer.
“Just something we choose together.”
Sophie smiled.
“Yes.”
