She Loved the Billionaire Since Childhood — Until Forced to Serve at His Wedding!
Chapter 7
They found the first major clue in an abandoned storage facility outside New York.
Ethan had discovered that his father’s old accountant rented the space under a false name.
Amelia, Ethan, and Sophie entered the building late at night.
Dust covered everything.
Boxes were stacked from floor to ceiling.
Ethan found a locked cabinet.
Inside was an old laptop.
Sophie turned it on.
One folder remained.
BROOKS AUDIT — FINAL.
Amelia stopped breathing.
Brooks was her father’s surname.
They opened it.
The documents showed millions of dollars had been transferred from Whitmore Industries into shell companies.
The companies were controlled by someone connected to the Langford family.
But there was more.
A video file.
Amelia clicked it.
Her father’s face appeared on the screen.
He looked younger.
Tired.
Afraid.
“If anyone finds this, it means I wasn’t able to finish what I started.”
Amelia covered her mouth.
Her father continued.
“I discovered that Richard Langford has been stealing from both companies.”
Ethan stared at the screen.
“The money was used to finance political campaigns and private investments.”
Her father continued.
“Daniel Whitmore knows.”
Ethan’s face changed.
“He knew.”
The video continued.
“But Daniel is afraid.”
Amelia’s eyes filled with tears.
“Why?”
Her father answered the question.
“Because Richard has evidence that Daniel committed fraud years ago.”
The video ended.
Silence filled the room.
Ethan sat down.
“My father wasn’t innocent.”
Amelia looked at him.
“No.”
“But he wasn’t the mastermind.”
“No.”
Sophie found another document.
“There’s more.”
She read it.
“Daniel planned to expose Richard.”
Ethan looked up.
“When?”
“After the wedding.”
Amelia stared.
“What?”
Sophie nodded.
“Your father arranged the marriage because he wanted access to Richard’s records.”
Ethan suddenly understood.
“The wedding was a trap.”
Amelia looked at him.
“For Richard.”
“And for Victoria.”
“Yes.”
Then the lights went out.
Everyone froze.
A noise came from the hallway.
Footsteps.
Someone was inside.
Ethan grabbed Amelia’s hand.
“Stay behind me.”
The footsteps came closer.
Then a voice whispered:
“Give me the files.”
