He Left Her for His First Love, Only to Regret It When a CEO Spoiled Her
Chapter 9
Two years later, Emily became CEO of the design division.
Alexander offered her the promotion.
She almost refused.
“Why me?”
“Because you built it.”
“It’s your company.”
“Not anymore.”
She stared.
“What?”
He transferred ownership of the division to her.
“You earned it.”
She was stunned.
“You’re giving me a company?”
“I’m giving you what you already built.”
She shook her head.
“You spoil me too much.”
He smiled.
“I know.”
She laughed.
Then kissed him.
Their marriage continued to grow.
Not perfect.
Real.
They fought.
Made mistakes.
Apologized.
Learned.
And never once made love feel like a transaction.
Meanwhile, Daniel’s company had become successful too.
He was no longer obsessed with proving anything.
He gave employees shares.
Built a scholarship fund.
And quietly donated to causes Emily cared about.
One day, Daniel received an invitation.
Emily’s company was launching a major international project.
He considered declining.
Then accepted.
At the event, Emily gave a speech.
“I used to think success meant being chosen.”
She paused.
“By a man.”
The audience laughed.
She smiled.
“By a company.”
“By a room full of important people.”
She looked toward Alexander.
“I was wrong.”
“Success is knowing your worth before anyone else recognizes it.”
Daniel listened from the back.
He felt proud.
Not because she was his ex-wife.
Because she had become exactly who she was supposed to be.
Afterward, Emily found him.
“Thank you for coming.”
“I wouldn’t miss it.”
She smiled.
“You really are okay.”
“Yes.”
“I’m glad.”
Daniel looked at Alexander.
“He’s good to you.”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
They stood quietly.
Then Daniel said:
“There’s something I should tell you.”
“What?”
“I’m happy you didn’t take me back.”
Emily looked surprised.
“Why?”
“Because I would’ve learned the wrong lesson.”
She frowned.
“What lesson?”
“That regret is enough to earn forgiveness.”
She nodded.
“It isn’t.”
“No.”
He smiled.
“Respect is.”
Emily hugged him.
“I’m proud of you.”
Daniel’s eyes filled.
“Thank you.”
They separated.
No bitterness.
No longing.
Just two people who had once loved each other and now wanted nothing but peace.
