He Left Her for His First Love, Only to Regret It When a CEO Spoiled Her
Chapter 12
Ten years after Daniel left Emily, their lives looked nothing like the people they had been.
Emily ran an international company.
Alexander had stepped back from daily operations.
They had two children.
Daniel had built a successful business and remained single.
Not because he couldn’t find someone.
Because he had finally learned not to rush into love simply because he was afraid of being alone.
One Sunday, Daniel visited his mother.
She asked:
“Are you happy?”
He thought.
“Yes.”
“Alone?”
“Yes.”
She smiled.
“Good.”
He laughed.
“I don’t think that’s what most mothers mean.”
“I don’t care what most mothers mean.”
He looked at her.
“What changed you?”
Daniel thought of Emily.
“I learned that love isn’t something you replace.”
She nodded.
“And?”
“You grow around the loss.”
His mother smiled.
“That sounds wise.”
“I had a good teacher.”
Meanwhile, Emily and Alexander returned to the bookstore again.
They brought their children.
The kids ran between the shelves.
Emily watched them.
“I never imagined this.”
Alexander took her hand.
“Neither did I.”
She looked at him.
“I’m glad I didn’t know.”
“Why?”
“Because I would’ve been too scared to believe it.”
He smiled.
“That’s okay.”
He kissed her forehead.
“You don’t have to be scared anymore.”
She smiled.
One of their children called:
“Mom!”
Emily laughed.
“Coming!”
Alexander watched her run toward them.
He had once thought his biggest achievement was building a billion-dollar company.
Then he met Emily.
He learned that the greatest things couldn’t be measured in money.
Trust.
Choice.
Respect.
Family.
He had given Emily beautiful things.
Trips.
Homes.
Opportunities.
But the greatest gift had been the simplest.
He believed her.
And Emily had spent years learning to believe herself.
