He Left Her for His First Love, Only to Regret It When a CEO Spoiled Her

Chapter 13

At the company’s twentieth anniversary, Emily gave a speech.

She stood on a stage in front of thousands.

Alexander watched from the front row.

Daniel sat farther back.

Emily looked around.

“When I was younger,” she said, “I thought being left meant I wasn’t enough.”

Silence.

“I was wrong.”

She continued.

“Someone else’s inability to value you is not evidence that you’re lacking.”

The audience applauded.

She smiled.

“I spent years trying to prove I could become someone worth choosing.”

She paused.

“Then I realized I didn’t need to be chosen.”

She looked toward Alexander.

“I needed to choose myself.”

Applause filled the room.

Daniel lowered his eyes.

He knew that speech was partly about him.

But he didn’t feel shame anymore.

He felt grateful.

Because losing Emily had forced him to confront the ugliest part of himself.

The part that had confused desire with love.

Memory with compatibility.

Possession with worth.

He had become better.

Not because he got Emily back.

Because he didn’t.

After the event, Daniel approached Alexander.

“Can I tell you something?”

“Sure.”

“You did something I couldn’t.”

Alexander frowned.

“What?”

“You saw her before she needed to prove anything.”

He paused.

“I didn’t.”

Alexander smiled.

“You eventually did.”

Daniel nodded.

“That still matters.”

They shook hands.

Then Emily joined them.

“What are you two talking about?”

Daniel smiled.

“Men being wise.”

Emily laughed.

“That sounds dangerous.”

They all laughed.

The moment was simple.

But important.

The three people connected by an old marriage no longer carried bitterness.

Just history.
