And now she was leaving.

Sophia had returned to the city two months earlier.

She had told Daniel she still loved him.

“I think I still love her.”
Emily had stared at him for a long time.

“You don’t have to choose me,” she said.
Daniel had expected tears.

A demand that he stay.

“Go.”
He had gone.
Now she was moving out of their apartment.
She had packed only two suitcases.
Daniel watched from across the airport lounge.
Sophia touched his arm.
“Are you okay?”
He nodded.
“I think so.”
“You’re doing the right thing.”
He looked at her.
“Yes.”
But something felt wrong.
Emily walked through the security entrance.
She didn’t look back.
Not once.
That hurt.
Daniel had expected her to.
He had expected some final expression that would prove she still needed him.
Instead, she disappeared.
Sophia smiled.
“She’ll be fine.”
Daniel nodded.
“Yes.”
He believed it.
At least for the moment.
Three months later, Daniel’s business started growing.
Sophia moved into his apartment.
Everything felt exciting.
New restaurants.
Expensive trips.
Late-night conversations.
But slowly, Daniel noticed something.
Sophia didn’t like his old friends.
She didn’t like his mother.
She didn’t like the small house he had once shared with Emily.
“It’s time to upgrade,” she said.
So he did.
He bought a bigger apartment.
A new car.
Designer clothes.
Everything Sophia wanted.
But he wasn’t happy.
One evening, he found an old box in the closet.
Inside was Emily’s handwriting.
His first business plan.
The one she had helped him write.
On the last page, she had written:

Daniel sat down.
For the first time, regret appeared.
But he pushed it away.
“She made her choice.”
He told himself that.
“She’ll move on.”

Then one afternoon, she walked into the lobby of a major corporation for an interview.
The CEO was waiting.

Emily expected a normal interview.
Instead, Alexander looked at her résumé.
Then at her design portfolio.

“Who taught you to think like this?”
Emily smiled.
“My husband.”

“Your husband?”

“Then he made a serious mistake.”
Emily laughed.
