He Left Her for His First Love, Only to Regret It When a CEO Spoiled Her

Chapter 5

Sophia confronted Daniel the following morning.

“You’re in love with her.”

“No.”

“You’re lying.”

Daniel stared at her.

“I regret what I did.”

“That’s not the same thing.”

“Maybe it is.”

Sophia laughed bitterly.

“Do you know why I came back?”

He said nothing.

“Because I wanted the man I loved at twenty-two.”

Daniel looked away.

“You aren’t that man anymore.”

“No.”

“And neither am I that woman.”

Silence.

Sophia’s voice softened.

“You thought coming back would restore the past.”

Daniel finally understood.

They hadn’t fallen back in love.

They had fallen in love with a memory.

She stood.

“I’m leaving.”

Daniel looked at her.

“Where will you go?”

“Home.”

She smiled sadly.

“To myself.”

She left.

For the first time, Daniel realized he had destroyed two relationships chasing something that no longer existed.

Meanwhile, Emily’s career exploded.

Her division became one of Alexander’s company’s fastest-growing units.

She won an industry award.

Magazine covers.

Interviews.

International projects.

But Alexander never changed around her.

He treated her the same in a five-star hotel as he did in the office kitchen.

One evening, Emily asked:

“Do you ever get tired of spoiling me?”

Alexander smiled.

“I’m not spoiling you.”

“You sent a driver because I didn’t want to take the subway.”

“You had an important meeting.”

“You bought my favorite cake.”

“I passed the bakery.”

“You reserved the restaurant I love.”

“That was strategic.”

She laughed.

“You’re impossible.”

He looked at her.

“I’m trying to make your life easier.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I know.”

He paused.

“I want to.”

That mattered.

Because Emily didn’t need a man to rescue her.

She needed someone who respected what she had built.

Then Daniel arrived at her office.

Security called.

“Your ex-husband is here.”

Emily stared at the phone.

“I’ll see him.”

Daniel entered.

He looked tired.

Different.

“You look well,” he said.

“So do you.”

“I wanted to return something.”

He handed her a small box.

Inside was her wedding ring.

The one she’d left behind.

“I kept it.”

She stared.

“I don’t want it.”

“I know.”

He closed the box.

“I just thought you should have it.”

She shook her head.

“Keep it.”

“Why?”

“Because it belongs to the person I was.”

Daniel’s eyes filled.

“I’m sorry.”

Emily nodded.

“I know.”

“I know I don’t deserve another chance.”

She remained silent.

“But if you ever…”

She stopped him.

“Don’t.”

He looked at her.

“Please don’t ask me to wait.”

“I won’t.”

“Don’t make promises.”

“I won’t.”

She smiled faintly.

“I hope you find peace.”

He nodded.

“I hope you keep yours.”

He left.

Emily watched the door close.

Then Alexander entered.

“You okay?”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

He sat beside her.

“You don’t have to explain.”

“I know.”

She leaned against him.

For the first time, her past didn’t feel like a weight.

It felt finished.

But Daniel’s story wasn’t over.

Because the next morning, a major investor approached him.

And the first thing the investor said was:

“I can make you richer than Alexander Reed.”

Daniel almost laughed.

He had spent months trying to compete with another man.

Now someone was offering him a deal that could change everything.

But the real question wasn’t whether Daniel could beat Alexander.

It was whether he could finally learn what Emily had already learned.

Money couldn’t repair a choice.
