Her name was Olivia.
She stood at the door trembling.
“I need to talk to you.”
Sarah looked at Daniel.
He nodded.
They let her inside.
Olivia placed a folder on the table.
“Jonathan didn’t do this alone.”
Sarah’s heart sank.
“Who else?”
Olivia looked toward Daniel.
“The CEO of the company that owns East Harbor.”
Daniel froze.
“That makes no sense.”
Olivia shook her head.
“It does.”
She showed them emails.
The scheme had been designed to inflate the value of the surrounding properties.
Then the properties would be sold to a transportation company at inflated prices.
The profits would be split.
But Daniel had interrupted the plan.
Now they needed another buyer.
Someone they could control.
Someone desperate.
Sarah looked at Daniel.
“They were going to make you that buyer.”
“Yes.”
Olivia nodded.
“There is more.”
She opened another file.

Sarah stared.
“They wanted his company.”
Daniel nodded slowly.
“So this was never about three hundred million.”
“No,” Olivia said.
“It was about control.”
Daniel leaned back.

“What happens now?”
Olivia looked at him.
“They’ll try to remove you.”
“How?”
“Board votes.”
“When?”
“Tomorrow morning.”
Sarah stared at him.
“What can we do?”
Daniel didn’t answer.

Then he looked at Sarah.
“Tell the truth.”
She frowned.
“About what?”
