Tina took a breath.
“I wrote that article.”
The audience was silent.
“I was heartbroken.”
She looked directly into the camera.
“I wanted to believe there was a scientific reason men stopped loving women.”
She smiled sadly.
“So I found one.”
A few people laughed.
“The truth is, my theory was ridiculous.”
Jack stared at her.
“You’re saying everything in the article was false?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I was afraid.”
Tina’s voice softened.
“I was afraid that if men kept leaving me, maybe something was wrong with me.”
The audience became completely still.
“So I created an explanation that made rejection easier.”
She wiped a tear.
“People aren’t animals following simple rules.”
“People are complicated.”
“They leave because they fall out of love.”
“Because they lie.”
“Because they’re afraid.”
“Because they make mistakes.”
“Because sometimes two people simply aren’t right for each other.”
Tina took a breath.
“And sometimes…”
She looked toward the side of the stage.
