Instead, Tina spent most of the night avoiding Cole.

Then he found her.

“I miss you.”

She looked at him.

“You don’t get to say that.”

“I mean it.”

“Then why did you leave?”

“I made a mistake.”

Tina’s heart betrayed her.

“Come out with me on New Year’s Eve.”

She hesitated.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes.”

She agreed.

For the next several days, she allowed herself to hope.

Then Cole didn’t show.

The next morning, he called.

“I saw Amanda.”

Tina closed her eyes.

“On New Year’s Eve?”

“Yes.”

“Are you back together?”

“I don’t know.”

She hung up.
