The relationship began quietly.
Too quietly.
A coffee after work.
A late-night phone call.
A kiss in an empty parking garage.

Tina knew it was wrong.
Cole knew it too.

“I’ve never felt like this before,” Cole told her one night.
Tina wanted to believe him.
So she did.
James noticed the change.
One afternoon, he caught Tina smiling at her phone.
“Who is it?”
“No one.”
“That smile says otherwise.”
“Mind your business.”
James grinned.
“I knew it.”
“Knew what?”
“You’re seeing Cole.”
Tina froze.
James’s smile disappeared.
“You should be careful.”
“I know what I’m doing.”
“Do you?”
She frowned.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
“He has a girlfriend.”
“He’s going to end it.”
“When?”
Tina didn’t answer.
James sighed.
“I hope I’m wrong.”
Tina walked away.
She hated that he had made her nervous.
