She Accidentally Sent Her Breakup Text to a Stranger—He Replied, “Don’t Send That Yet.”

Chapter 12

The wedding took place the following spring.

It was small.

No billionaires.

No politicians.

No secret organizations.

Just family.

Friends.

Employees.

The bakery was decorated with flowers.

Ethan’s company provided nothing except transportation.

Emily insisted.

“I don’t want a corporate wedding.”

He laughed.

“Good.”

Her mother walked her down the aisle.

Ethan’s mother sat beside her.

Daniel attended quietly.

They had forgiven him.

Not completely.

But enough.

When Emily reached Ethan, he smiled.

“You came.”

She laughed.

“You asked.”

The officiant began.

Their vows were simple.

Ethan said:

“You taught me that being careful isn’t the same as being safe.”

Emily smiled.

“You taught me that waiting isn’t the same as patience.”

People laughed.

Then she became serious.

“I don’t know if the first message was an accident.”

Ethan smiled.

“It wasn’t.”

She looked at him.

“What?”

He nodded.

“Daniel admitted later that he changed the contact.”

She laughed.

“You knew?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I wanted one part of our story to remain uncertain.”

She smiled.

“That’s annoying.”

“I know.”

They kissed.

The celebration lasted all night.

No secrets.

No fear.

Just happiness.

But near midnight, Emily stepped outside.

Her mother joined her.

“Are you happy?”

“Yes.”

“You deserve that.”

Emily looked at her.

“Did you know we’d end up together?”

Her mother smiled.

“I hoped.”

“Why?”

“Because your father and Ethan’s father always believed you two could change each other’s lives.”

Emily smiled.

“They were right.”

Her mother looked away.

“There is one thing I never told you.”

Emily sighed.

“Another secret?”

“No.”

She smiled.

“I think I’ve had enough of those.”

Her mother laughed.

“Fair.”

She handed Emily a small envelope.

Inside was the original phone number Ethan had used.

The number she had accidentally texted.

A note:

Some messages find the right person. Even when you send them to the wrong one.

Emily cried.

She folded the note.

Then looked toward the doorway.

Ethan was waiting.

“Everything okay?”

She smiled.

“Yes.”

“What did your mother say?”

“That she was right.”

“About?”

Emily walked toward him.

“About us.”

He kissed her.

And for once, there was nothing left to uncover.
