“You’re bleeding,” Emily said.

He smiled.
“Missed that.”
They entered the building.

A woman.
Clara Cole.
Ethan’s aunt.
His father’s sister.
Ethan stared.
“My aunt?”
Daniel nodded.

Daniel shook his head.

“You finally came.”
Ethan stood across from her.

“No.”
“You ordered it.”
“I ordered him to stay.”

Emily stepped between them.
“Why?”
Clara looked at her.

“And?”
“I was wrong.”
She looked tired.
“Your mother knew.”
Emily frowned.
“My mother?”
“She and your father were planning to expose me.”
“Why didn’t they?”
“Because they loved you.”
Clara handed Emily a folder.
