No One Could Serve the Foreign Tycoon — Until the Waitress Switched Languages!
Chapter 7
The cemetery was empty when they arrived.
Mist hung between the graves.
Emma stood before her father’s tombstone.
“You’re saying he hid evidence here?”
Margaret nodded.
“He told me no one would search where everyone believed the story was already finished.”
Alexander examined the stone.
Nothing.
Emma touched the carved letters.
Her fingers stopped at the year of Daniel’s death.
There was a tiny scratch beneath the date.
A triangle.
Her father used the symbol when they played treasure hunts.
Emma smiled despite herself.
“He used this symbol when I was a child.”
She pressed the stone.
Nothing happened.
Alexander searched the base.
“Here.”
A small panel opened.
Inside was a memory card.
Emma picked it up.
A voice came from behind them.
“Give it to me.”
Victor stood between the graves.
His coat was soaked.
His face was exhausted.
Alexander stepped forward.
“Victor.”
“I don’t want to hurt her.”
Emma stared at him.
“Then tell me the truth.”
Victor lowered his weapon.
“I was supposed to deliver Daniel’s evidence.”
“To Adrian?”
Victor nodded.
“But I changed my mind.”
“Why?”
“Because your father found out Adrian planned to kill you.”
Emma’s eyes widened.
“You knew?”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn’t you stop him?”
Victor’s voice broke.
“I tried.”
He explained.
Daniel had discovered Black Orchid’s plan to obtain confidential technology through shipping companies. Adrian had created shell corporations across multiple countries. Victor had initially helped him.
But Daniel had become suspicious.
When Daniel threatened to expose everything, Adrian ordered his death.
Victor had arranged the staged accident.
Emma recoiled.
“You arranged it?”
“I arranged the crash.”
Silence.
“But your father wasn’t inside the car.”
Emma stared at him.
“What?”
“Daniel escaped before the crash.”
Alexander stepped forward.
“Where is he?”
Victor shook his head.
“I don’t know.”
Emma felt dizzy.
“My father is alive?”
“No.”
Victor looked at her.
“He survived the crash.”
Emma’s eyes filled with tears.
“But six years ago…”
“He was hunted for eleven days.”
“What happened?”
“He disappeared.”
Victor looked at the memory card.
“That contains the answer.”
Suddenly a gunshot cracked through the cemetery.
Victor fell.
Emma screamed.
Alexander dragged her behind a stone monument.
More shots followed.
Victor lay motionless.
Alexander reached for the memory card.
It was gone.
Emma looked toward the trees.
A figure disappeared into the fog.
Someone had taken it.
And whoever it was had known exactly where they would be.
